What are you listening to? | A List Of My Favorite Podcasts

IMG_1881.JPG

My favorite pastime nowadays is listening to podcasts. Sometimes I’ll pop one on to get me through the workday, or even when I work out. Podcasts remind me of listening to radio shows when I was younger, where you’d hear stories from different people and any lessons they’ve learned from their experiences. Here are my top 5 podcasts that I listen to religiously (in no particular order):

Small Doses with Amanda Seales

In her podcast, Small Doses, actress Amanda Seales shares her raw truth. I first learned about Seales through her role on Insecure as Tiffany and found her podcast later on. (because I like to read up on actors and what they do outside of their roles) In her podcast, Amanda says the things that everyone is afraid to say and shares her heart in discussing things like being an empath, the black experience, f*ckboys, being “difficult”, and much more. You can laugh, and also learn some things, with her podcast.

You can find Small Doses on streaming platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or iHeartRadio.

Woman Evolve Podcast with Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts

I started following Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts in 2016 when I found a video clip from one of her sermons on Facebook. She co-pastors with her husband, Touré Roberts, at The Potter’s House in LA and Denver. Her podcast stems from her ministry, Woman Evolve, where the mission is to challenge the norms and limits of what it means to be a woman of faith in modern times. Whether you’re a Christian or not, this podcast is for everyone, as SJR talks about various topics, current events, and responds to listener letters. SJR speaks on topics like mental/emotional health, relationships, and personal growth. She, along with some of her guest cohosts, will have you cracking up and taking notes!

You can find the Woman Evolve Podcast on streaming platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or iHeartRadio.

Deadass with Khadeen and Devale Ellis

I absolutely LOVE Dead Ass with Khadeen and Devale Ellis, a couple known for the viral videos they’ve shared on social media. As millennials, the Ellises bring a fresh perspective to the table on topics like having a career, raising a family, and building a legacy. Even though I’m not married, I’ve learned some things regarding marriage and relationships through these two. Khadeen and Devale remind me of my aunt and uncle, who are also millennials, along with some of friends. They’re relatable, funny, and great to listen to!

You can find Dead Ass with Khadeen and Devale on all streaming platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeartRadio.

THe npr politics podcast

I have been listening to NPR for the last decade and I love them for everything they do. I can count on them to give me the facts without any bias, which I value the most when it comes to the news. Their Politics podcast focuses on the latest news in politics, and is hosted by political commentators from NPR and other respected organizations. They can be trusted to tell you what’s going on without the performative shenanigans.

Therapy for black girls

Therapy for Black Girls is IT! This podcast is hosted by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a Licensed Psychologist from Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Bradford leaves no stone unturned, as she discusses topics related to mental health, such as psychological disorders, healing, and how to cope in certain situations. She also speaks on topics for every woman and girl in every stage in their life, which I absolutely LOVE. Some episodes also feature other psychologists to provide insight on these topics as well. Though it is not a substitute for going to therapy, this podcast is a great tool for learning more about mental health and personal development.

You can find Therapy For Black Girls on all streaming platforms.
