Pop Stars in the Kitchen: A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Cute and Delicious Cake Pops

Ready to learn how to make cake pops? These cute and tasty treats are perfect for any occasion and are sure to put a smile on anyone's face. So, let's dive into the wonderful world of cake pops and learn how to make them like a pro!

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of your favorite cake mix and the ingredients to make it: eggs, water, oil (or milk to make the cake softer)

  • 1 cup of frosting (cream cheese or buttercream will work well.)

  • Candy melts or chocolate for coating

  • Any additional ingredients you need to spice up your cake. (For example, I put pumpkin puree in my spice cake batter)

  • Lollipop sticks

  • Bags and ribbons for packaging

  • Sprinkles or decorations of your choice ( I didn’t use sprinkles for this batch)

Step 1: Bake the Cake

Start by preparing the cake according to the instructions on the box. Once baked, let the cake cool completely. (Extra tip: If you have a small group you’re baking for, set aside any extra cake you have and put it in the freezer for later!)

Step 2: Crumble and Mix

Once your cake has cooled, crumble it into fine crumbs using your hands or a fork. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake crumbs with the frosting. This is where you can get creative – choose a frosting that complements your cake flavor and adds a deliciously moist texture. I used cream cheese frosting for my pumpkin spice cake pops, and vanilla buttercream for my yellow cake pops.

Step 3: Shape the Cake Balls

Take a small amount of the cake and frosting mixture and roll it into a ball. Aim for uniformity in size to ensure even baking and coating. Place the cake balls on a parchment-lined tray and chill them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

Step 4: Insert Lollipop Sticks

After the cake balls have chilled, melt a small amount of candy melts or chocolate. Dip the tip of each lollipop stick into the melted chocolate and insert it into the cake balls, about halfway through. This helps the stick adhere securely to the cake pop.

Step 5: Dip and Decorate

Melt the remaining candy melts or chocolate in a deep bowl. Holding the cake pop by the stick, dip it into the melted coating, ensuring the cake ball is covered. Gently tap off any excess coating. Now, the fun part is to decorate! Sprinkle with colorful sprinkles, drizzle with contrasting chocolate, or get as creative as you like. For my pumpkin spice cake pops, I sprinkled Pumpkin Spice on the top.

Step 6: Let Them Set

Place the decorated cake pops back on the parchment-lined tray and allow them to set completely. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes. Once set, your cake pops are ready to steal the show!

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy!

Whether it's a birthday party, holiday gathering, or just a sweet treat for yourself, these cute and delicious cake pops are sure to be a hit! Arrange them in a decorative display or package them up as adorable gifts.
