"Don't worry, be happy." | Remaining Positive In Negative Circumstances
Let your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile. - Connor Franta
The quote above is one of my favorite quotes of all time. It’s also very timely.
It’s hard to ignore news about world events when it’s everywhere: on TV, in magazines or newspapers, and even social media. Every day, the headlines get more and more bizarre, leaving little to no room for positivity. And while things are changing nationally, they’re also changing locally with our jobs and communities.
Some of these changes can be good, but they can also be frightening. You may wonder how these changes will affect your future. You may wonder if things will get better. The good news is that they will.
I used the quote above to encourage you to remain positive despite what’s going on around you. Seeing/hearing bad news can discourage us from having a positive view on life.
So, here’s a few things that I do personally to keep my smile:
1) TURN OFF THE NEWS (Just for a day):
Sometimes watching the news gets overwhelming for me. What helps with this is taking a day off from watching the news. On social media, I “mute” certain keywords/profiles so they won’t pop up on my timeline. You can do that under your account settings
2) Talk with a therapist or someone you trust
Find a trusted friend or a therapist to help you digest what’s going on in the world. It’s easy to get lost in our thoughts and feelings and talking with someone helps us to sort them out. You also gain another perspective on things and could learn something new!
3) Treat yourself!
A little pick-me-up can go a long way! One of my favorite things to do for a little relaxation is get my nails done. After a long work week, I know I deserve some TLC, and so do you! Get your nails done, make your favorite dish, grab some coffee, or curl up on the couch with your favorite book. Setting aside some time for yourself can not only helps you to relax, but it gives you a much-needed energy boost!
Some other tips I’d suggest are: meditation, journaling, spending time with friends and family, and even going on a digital fast (no social media, limited TV time, etc.). Life in this world can get pretty chaotic, and it can be difficult to find peace. I hope this helps.
Keep shining!
